Our History

Michigan Driveline is a specialized transmission shop in Westland, MI that can take care of all of your transmission repairs. We have been in business for over 18 years, and our owners, Tim Gorton and Chris Peters, have 50+ years of combined experience in automotive repair.

 

We commit ourselves to transmissions and can take care of any transmission service or repairs, including rebuilding and remanufacturing transmissions. Our service equipment is up to date and top of the line, our facilities are expansive and accommodating, and our crew is experienced and well trained. We are prepared to handle your transmission rebuild or remanufacture promptly. With our 10,000 square-foot facility and our ample transmission stock, we will do the job right—and in less time than the competition. We service all makes and models: foreign, and domestic, cars, trucks, and 4x4s.

 

Michigan Driveline was established in 2004 when Tim Gorton and Chris Peters ventured away from their previous work in Ford dealerships to branch out on their own. Both are Master Technicians trained through the Ford program. In order to complete this training, they first had to be state and ASE certified, which educated them in not only auto transmissions, but all automotive systems. At the dealerships, Tim and Chris together acquired 33 years of experience and training on Ford automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, 4x4 transfer case systems, and rear ends. When they started the business, they did mostly warranty repairs for the very dealerships that they had left. Gradually, other dealerships picked them up, and before long customers took note.

 

From that time, Michigan Driveline and its facilities in Westland, MI have grown—from a 6,000 square-foot shop with 3 hoists to 10,000 square feet with 4 hoists, 3 flats, and plenty of space available for transmission stock. We complete all of our remanufactured transmissions in our own facility, and Michigan Driveline builders never use outsourced or junkyard parts for replacements. That sets us apart from our competitors. Because we specialize in rebuilt transmissions and remanufactured transmissions, not just routine maintenance work, our clients get their vehicles back faster. Our builders begin the job and finish it without any “waiter service”; no smaller jobs get in the way.
